About Lara Jane Thorpe
Lara Jane Thorpe is an award-winning Photographer specialising in Food, Drink, Product, Property and Lifestyle visual storytelling. Her work is creative and unique, with a commercial twist, stemming from her many years as a retail buyer and brand developer for top retail businesses, before following her passion and becoming a commercial photographer.
Lara is known for her love of natural light but has the technical skill to use artificial light, naturally when needed.
Lara has lived and worked worldwide and is now based in beautiful sunny Dorset. Her studio based in her home in Weymouth is flooded with natural light and has rooms of props for every occasion. She has portable studio equipment and will travel where the work takes her. If you are short of time or just want to drop off or send samples in the post. Lara also offers this service to many of her clients from all over the county.

Photography
As well as photography Lara is an artistic ‘jack of all trades’. She has learnt many creative skills in the last 14 years of runing her photography business. Product and food styling, painting creative backgrounds, and taking pottery classes to make her very own collection of crockery.
This makes her shoots not only unique but dramatically saves money. You not only get a photographer, you also get a stylist, food preparation, a prop department, a recipe writer, a creative director, a photo editor and 20 years of commercial experience thrown into every shoot.

The great thing about what she does is that she can work at any level. From big companies as part of a team to produce editorial and advertising images. To work with independent businesses to build your brand story across websites, social media, in press and magazines.
When starting work with a new brand, Lara takes the time and care to understand your brand and its ethos. She researches the industry to find new and exciting ideas for every shoot. Lara doesn’t like to tie herself down to one style of photography but likes to grow each style individually for each brand she works with, giving you your authentic brand look and feel.
The great thing about being on a shoot with Lara is she always has fun. She brings buckets of creativity always goinhg beyond the call of duty to get the job done right, becoming a valued part of your creative team.

Lara has been shortlisted 12 times since 2016 and in the finals, 2017 and 2024 for the International Pink Lady Food Photography of the Year Award, winning highly commended on both occasions
