Lara is well known for her love of working with natural light, where she can and all the challenges and advantages this brings. She loves natural light for food as it brings the colours and textures out in a far more lifelike way for photography. The great thing about natural light is it makes Lara quicker, not having big lighting setups in her way and the time it takes to set them up, especially on lifestyle location shoots. Her low-light lenses, enable her to work faster, be more flexible and cost-effective for your business. Lara also has the technical skills with her professional lighting kits to give you a natural sunny lighting look on a rainy winter afternoon. Or a cosy Christmas look during a product shoot in July.
The great thing about Lara is she is a creative photographer with attention to detail. Her shoots are planned up front so she can hit the shoot running. Whether it is a documentary-style photo-shoot for a PR event or a styled product shoot. Lara is also easy to work with, as not only does she have her own studio for product and food photography. She also has a portable studio and camera equipment she can set up anywhere. Lara also offers a remote service where you can agree on styling and photography style before the shoot. Then send her your samples through the post, leaving the rest in Lara’s capable hands. Lara offers 2-hour, half-day and full-day rates. All images are professionally edited, colour-corrected and retouched as required. Lara’s commercial approach to photography means you can be anywhere in the country and still get creative professional images in 7 days. You will receive your edited images in a high-res version, ideal for print, and a web-sized version ready for you to use on your social media, online store or website
Styling and Props
Lara originally trained as a fashion designer and in her spare time worked in set design at the theatre. After a very successful career as a fashion buyer, she went back to university and trained as a commercial photographer. Styling her own photo-shoots is where she brings all her creative skills and knowledge together.
Props help to tell a story and add character to your images. Lara has an ever growing prop department with hundreds of plates & bowls, teapots, glasses, tea towels, cups and mugs, coloured fabrics, vintage and modern cutlery, chopping boards, in every colour you can think of, as well as boxes of props for sessional photo-shoots. Lara always picks up authentic props from her travels like chia glasses from India or chopsticks from Japan giving all her shoots authentic attention to detail where possible. She even makes her own pottery and paints her unique backgrounds. if she doesn’t have the right background for your shoot she will paint one in your preferred colour. Her home and studio are an Aladdin’s cave full of everything you need to make your photos come alive.
Lara has always had a passion for food and cooking. During lockdown this passion developed in to food styling and recipe writing for brands and magazines which is now another skill in her creative tool kit.
Lara switches seamlessly between the role of photographer, stylist and prop coordinator making your shoots stress-free and cost effective.
Design and Art direction
Lara has worked on more business shoots than you can count and every single one has its challenges and opportunities. She is in the unique position of supporting you through your shoot process. Her expertise, knowledge and creative direction offers you the support your project requires from conception to creation.
If you don’t have a brief or art direction of your own then Lara can help you with this. She starts by analysing your market, and your competitors, finding new brand looks to build your business and creating a visual inspiration board.
The inspiration mood board will include style of photography, styling prop examples, colours and textures giving you a look and feel for your brand photography, which is agreed before the shoot. This helps Lara organise the props and technical equipment required before your shoot and enables your shoot to run more smoothly.
Identifying how you are going to use your images will affect how the photography need to be shot, or you may need the images for all occasions so different orientations are key. Lara has all the experience to help you with this while working closely within your critical path
